About US |
Official ILOVEBOOBIES Ambassadors |
Rico Van Rooyen has always had a love of cycling. Taking part in the then Cape Argus many years back. Nick Coetzee, having always wanted a road bike, decided it was time during COVID hard lockdown to take up the sport. Together we wanted to create a fun and safe group of like minded cyclists to enjoy the roads in a fun and safe manner. Perfectly situated in Hillcrest / Waterfall in the Upper Highway of Durban, we are abundant with choice here. Having the Bothas Hill stretch of Amashova on our doorstep with all its rolling hills and scenery, to the somewhat flatter roads in and around Hillcrest, Winston Park and Kloof. Racing enthusiast, Jacques Visser officially joined our committee as vice chairman recently. We look forward to his input for Summit. Luke Smith joined the committee as MTB Captain in 2023. His love of MTB made this decision a no brainer. Luke heads up all MTB rides hosted by our club. |
And here is the story on ILOVEBOOBIES. A charity we are very proud to be a part of :
6 Years ago, we used the Cape Epic race as a platform to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and it hit home riding through these rural areas, that the medical facilities are very limited. How do South African women get screened, do they know how their diet affects their lifetime risk of cancer and how important it is to regularly examine themselves? The mother is the pillar in the family, if something happens to her, the family unit is at huge risk, this adds a burden to the community to step up. Like dropping a pebble in a pond. ILoveBoobies Charity was created to provide FREE breast health screening service to South African women in need. In 2020, 2,3 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer, 685000 died. The earlier the detection the greater the chance of survival. In Europe & America, the survival rate is 90%, in South Africa just 40%. This is primarily due to late detection because of limited access to medical care. It is a harsh reality, but we all know someone who has breast cancer and we are all affected by this disease. What’s with the socks & sports? Sport gives us a platform to set an example of the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle and how greatly reduces your lifetime risk of cancer. It often gives an opportunity to inspire, encourage and educate others and to raise awareness for our cause. A little research and we found that the sweet spot for donations is R150, $15, €15, or £15. And with the currency conversion to Rand, $15 covers the cost of a screening. We started thinking about what product could we sell for this value but still have enough left over for a decent donation, that would stay around for a while, act as an advertisement and also make a statement and raise an eyebrow…this is how ILoveBoobies Socks came into being. That is also the spirit with which all our kit is designed. We pride ourselves in creating cool kit, in great fabrics and we partner with cool brands like Ciovita and Sox for kit and DHL & Fastway for deliveries. Our events attract great sponsors like USN, JBL, Garmin, Total Sports, ON Shoes, Wintergreen, Woolworths, Assmagic, and Ciovita. |
